The Problem
MUSIC FOR THE HEART works to eliminate cardiovascular disease by supporting scientific research. We raise money by producing world-class musical concerts and we educate the public through our Focus on Science events. We recognize that music is an efficient, effective means for engaging people and stimulating thought and, as such, a sustainable basis for creating positive impact.
DIRECTING RESOURCES to the root of the problem, Music for the Heart proceeds are currently donated to The Oregon Health and Sciences University Heart Research Center to support seed grants and young scientists. Seed grants are a necessary part of the scientific process, enabling scientists to conduct the early phases of research, gather prelimary data on new ideas, and prepare for large-scale research projects worthy of Federal funding. SINCE OUR INCEPTION in 2005, we have contributed over $100,000.00 to heart research.

DID YOU KNOW?
The US spends over $1 BILLION EVERY DAY treating cardiovascular disease (strokes, heart attacks, hypertension). The root causes remain unknown, however, and we don't know how to completely prevent these leading causes of death. More basic research is needed to unlock these mysteries and discover definitive ways to prevent cardiovascular disease for future generations.
A woman's diet and her muscle mass during pregnancy play a critical role in risk of heart disease in her offspring during adult life.
Cardiovascular disease causes more loss of life than the seven other leading causes of death COMBINED.
A woman's risk of dying from cardiovascular disease is 5 times greater than dying from breast cancer.
Cardiovascular disease is the cause of death in 50% of deaths in the US.
