MUSIC FOR THE HEART works to raise money for cardiovascular research. We accomplish this primarily through world-classmusical concerts. We also work to increase public awareness and promote cardiovascular health through music.
Proceeds are currently
donated to The Oregon Health and Sciences University Heart Research Center to support seed grants and young scientists working
to understand the genetic, epigenetic, molecular, and cellular factors causing cardiovascular disease. Seed grants
are a necessary part of the scientific process, enabling scientists to conduct the early phases of research, gather prelimary
data on new ideas, and prepare for large-scale research projects worthy of Federal funding. See Research Results.
For
the first time in human history the critical elements for understanding the root causes of cardiovascular disease and discovering
cures are converging. Research is beginning to shed light on relationships between a mother's health and diet and the future
heart health of her children, for example. Combined with the power of modern technology, investigation at this level provides
unprecedented possibilities.
The US currently spends over $1billion each day treating cardiovascular disease (strokes,
heart attacks, hypertension), but what we need is a way to prevent it. We cannot prevent it unless we learn what causes it. Funding
is critically needed now to maintain this momentum and maximize these opportunities to reduce disease in future generations.
MUSIC
FOR THE HEART is working to become a nationwide program to support collaboration among heart research centers.
